Virginia Declaration of Rights Award - Recognizes the top junior student(s) in the I&S Department for her/his/their excellence in present and past courses. It also recognizes the student's impressive extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and deep passion for civic engagement, civil rights, and social justice issues.
National History Club Award - Recognizes a club member who shows leadership, active participation, and encourages school-wide events related to history
Mathematics Diligence Award - Recognizes students who have shown a strong work ethic throughout their years as a mathematics student.
Mathematics Achievement Award - Recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in every level of mathematics throughout their years as a mathematics student.
Outstanding Senior in the Life Sciences
Outstanding Senior in the Physical Sciences
Rensselaer Medal Program - This award was first presented in 1816 with two purposes: to recognize the superlative academic achievement of young men and women; and to motivate students toward careers in science, engineering, and technology. If the recipient of this award is accepted and chooses to enroll at Rensselaer, this award guarantees him/her/them $30,000 (2020) per year towards tuition, guaranteed for four years. The student chosen is a member of the junior class, excels in advanced Math and Science courses, exhibits well-rounded interest and involvement in extracurricular activities, and demonstrates adherence to rigorous academic standards.
Bausch + Lomb Honorary Science Award and Scholarship - Recognizes a junior student for outstanding academic achievement and superior intellectual promise in the field of science. This award is sponsored by the University of Rochester and, if accepted to the university, makes the student eligible for a $10,000 scholarship each year for four years.
Dr. Peter Mecca Award - The Dr. Peter Mecca Award is presented to a junior or senior who has done outstanding work in science in and beyond the classroom with an emphasis on scientific inquiry and environmental sustainability. The student that most characterizes this award is informed, passionate, positive, helpful, and diligent.

Cornell Club of Washington Book Award - Awarded to a junior with high academic accomplishments and who has demonstrated strong leadership in the area of community service.
George Washington University Book Award - Recognizes a junior who embodies the GW drive and spirit, specifically with their academic excellence, leadership outside of the classroom, diversity of thought, and ability to put knowledge into action.
The Harvard Prize Book Award - Awarded to an outstanding student in the junior class, selected by the school, who combines excellence in scholarship and high character with achievement in other fields.
Oberlin College Book Award - Awarded to one exceptional junior who has shown a commitment in the arts, environmental awareness, science, or social justice.
Swarthmore College Book Award - Recognizes the outstanding leadership and academic passion of a student in the junior class.
University of Vermont Citizen Scholar Award - Presented to a junior who is a mover, shaker, and change-maker and an upstanding citizen and member of society.
Bob Morrison Photography and Graphic Arts Award* - For a senior who has demonstrated excellence in photography or graphic arts in the hopes that he/she/they will be encouraged to continue pursuing photography or graphic arts.
The Hoover Prize for Writing - Seeks to inspire a senior to continue developing his/her/their passion for and talent in writing, and to spark that same inspiration in others.
The Cay Wiant Creative Award* - For a student who is interested in attending a creative summer program.
Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence - Sponsored by the US Marine Corps and is presented to a senior who has shown high musicianship and leadership skills. In achieving this award, the senior displayed traits the Marines consider essential: Endurance, Knowledge, Unselfishness, Dependability, Enthusiasm, and Loyalty. This tradition dates back to the days of John Philip Sousa and his role in the "President's Own".
The John Phillip Sousa Band Award - This award is the height of achievement in the high school band. John Phillip Sousa is without a doubt the most famous bandmaster in the world. Sousa brought band music to its pinnacle as a director of the US Marine Band. The John Phillip Sousa Award recognizes superior musicianship, high academic achievement, outstanding dedication, strong leadership skills, and contributions above and beyond the call of duty.
FCCPS Band Boosters Scholarship - Recognizes one or more graduating senior band musicians who plan to pursue music on some form at the college level. The award celebrates students' pursuit of excellence, depth of commitment, along with a passion for music.
Grace Rissetto ESOL Scholarship* - This award is given to a graduating senior who entered the ESOL program at a basic level and will be the first in his/her/their family to attend a college or university in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
American Association of University Women (AAUW) Educational Equity Scholarship - Recognizes students who have demonstrated strong academic progress, leadership potential, work ethic, and school and/or community participation.
DAR Good Citizen Scholarship - Awards a senior who exemplifies the qualities of dependability, leadership, and patriotism through their application and an essay.
Taco Bell Foundation Live Más Scholarship - Provides scholarships to students from around the country with different passions, stories, and dreams with the common goal of changing the world. The recipient receives a $10,000 scholarship.
Northern Virginia Athletic Directors, Administrators and Coaches Association (NVADACA) Scholarship - Recognizes students who have participated in sanctioned sports, crew, as cheerleaders, or who have served as team managers and athletic trainers.
Donald S. Frady Community Scholarship (sponsored by Falls Church Lions Club) - Awarded to a student who has served many worthy causes and in caring for others.
Women's Club of Falls Church Scholarship* - Awarded to students who exemplify the qualities of community service and strong academics.
George Mason University Early Identification Program (sponsored by GMU) - Falls Church City and GMU have been in partnership since 1999. The EIP is a college preparatory program that encourages students from traditionally underrepresented populations to successfully complete high school and attend college. Students with college potential, who would be the first in their families to graduate from an American college, are identified and invited to participate. EIP students must attend cultural and academic events, 2-hour weekly tutoring sessions, and each summer commit to a 3-week summer academy held at GMU. For those students who successfully complete the GMU program and have the required GPA, admission to GMU is guaranteed!
Vicki Galliher Scholarship (Anonymous Sponsor) - This scholarship was established by a family to honor Vicki Galliher (GMHS Athletic Training Coordinator and FCCPS Concussion Management Specialist) for the incredible amount of love and compassion she showed with her gentle, unassuming servant's heart. The family hopes that this award will encourage GMHS students to follow in Vicki's footsteps in reaching beyond the call of duty in showing respect and compassion to others in need.
Kathleen Halayko Scholarship* (Anonymous Sponsor) - Awarded to a graduating senior who has been in the Falls Church City Public Schools from Kindergarten through 12th Grade. The awardee shall represent the leadership and kindness through retired Mt. Daniel Principal Mrs. Halayko's 28 years of service to FCCPS.
Felgar-Da Silva Immigrant Community Citizen Award* (sponsored by Julie Felgar and Dan Da Silva) - Awarded annually to one senior who is the child of immigrant parents or an immigrant themselves, and who exemplifies the character traits of resilience, hard work, adaptation, and community involvement.
Robert and Nancy Perry Scholarship* (sponsored by Nancy Perry) - Awarded to a graduating senior who will attend Northern Virginia Community College in the fall.
Robert W. Snee Scholarship* (sponsored by the City of Falls Church Community) - Awarded to a senior whose consistent efforts have made George Mason High School a better place.
Unsung Hero Award (sponsored by the GMHS Class of 2007) - Honors a senior who may not have otherwise been recognized or shone in the spotlight. He/She/They is humble, yet a dedicated individual who quietly contributes to the spirit of success of the Mason community, whether through a single project or through a series of actions.
Jessie Thackrey Memorial Scholarship* (sponsored by Keith and Susan Thackrey) - Awarded to a graduating senior who achieved his/her/their goals through non-traditional means.
The Franklin and Kent Thackrey Memorial Scholarship* - Awarded to a student for his/her/their excellence in journalism.
Patricia Doyle Memorial Scholarship* (sponsored by Robert Cohen) - In memory of Patricia Doyle who was a tireless advocate for all students in FCCPS. Her particular passion was to promote the division's efforts to address the individual needs of learners.
Maria Elena Nudell Award (sponsored by Marilyn Dano & Mayer Nudell) - Maria Elena Nudell passed away in the summer of 1995 after her 8th-grade year. This award is given to a graduating senior who reflects Maria Elena's positive direction in life. The award focuses on a student's community involvement, as well as dedication to family and school.
Beth and Nancy Sprague Spirit of George Mason Award* (sponsored by The Sprague Family) - Awarded to a senior who embodies and captures the true essence of The Spirit of Mason, in tribute to Beth and Nancy Sprague whose contributions to our school and community were truly immeasurable.
Jessica Blair Szymanski Memorial Scholarship* (sponsored by The Szymanski Family) - Jessica Blair Szymanski was a student who was kind to others, possessed a great sense of humor, and demonstrated good sportsmanship. She demonstrated a genuine appreciation of our diverse community and left a positive impression on students, teachers, and parents as someone who cared deeply for others. This scholarship is awarded to a senior who has exemplified Jessica's perseverance, her commitment, her compassion, and her love of life.
Tyrone Byrd Mind, Body, and Character Scholarship* - Awarded to a senior who excels in all three traits of an ideal Mason student.
J. Roger and Patricia A. Wollenberg Memorial Scholarship* (sponsored by The Wollenberg Family) - This scholarship provides a full year's tuition and fees to a Virginia public university or college for a graduating senior who demonstrates the ideals of public service and leadership. It is renewable for subsequent years of study.
RRMM Architects Superintendent's Scholarship - Awarded to a graduating senior who reflects the values and goals of the FCCPS division. This first-generation student will attend a community college or a 4-year institution and will continue promoting and living the expectations of FCCPS.
